8 Reasons to Treasure your Family Photo Shoot

It’s said that a picture paints a thousand words, but maybe it can do even more than that?  People choose to have family portrait photographs done for so many different reasons, but here are just a few to think about

Mums are usually so good at avoiding getting in front of the camera for a family photo

 1) Opportunity to reminisce as a family

I come from a generation when the fashion was to use slides instead of prints as the best medium for photography (or was that just our family?).  I still remember the excitement of setting up the projector, closing the curtains and watching a slideshow of the holiday we’d just returned from.  All well and good, but not massively feasible if you just want to have a flick through some old pictures on a wet Sunday afternoon.  A set of prints that you can handle and pass round is far more practical and such fun to look back at pictures of years gone by;

2) Boost a child’s self esteem and nurture relationships with family members

Putting pictures of the family at the front and centre of your home, reminds everyone that home is where they belong and where they are loved and supported and reinforces their belief they are front and centre of the family;

3) Reflects the bonds that you all have

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to forget to spend a few minutes together without distractions, but that image of a family connection can be a simple, visual reminder of the bonds that  you share;

4) Enjoy some quality time

It’s the opportunity to spend time together laughing and joking, away from the distractions of devices, TV or work.. The final pictures will be a lasting memory of the day.  My shoots are very laid back and take place out and about in the beautiful Devon countryside and therefore there’s no formality to them.  I’m not going to boss you around and tell you to smile and I definitely won’t ask you to say ‘cheese’ – ever!!  I want my family photoshoots to be a fun experience and one you will look back on with happy memories;

5) Perfect way to personalise your home

It’s very hard to find original wall art these days without spending a fortune, but there’s nothing more personal than pictures of your family.  If you can hang beautiful pictures of you all it will not only create a truly personal look to your house but can make you smile whenever you pass by;

Family photography photoshoots are about having fun together as a family

6) Children will appreciate the opportunity to look back on family pictures from when they were young

The idea of being in front of the camera might fill you will horror but it’s really important for your children to be able to look back and see pictures of you with them and ones where you are relaxed and happy. Particularly with smaller children, memories can be hazy but being able to look back on pictures of the connections you all have between you will be special.  Phone photos definitely have their place, but someone always has to be behind the camera, and chances are that’s mum (and let’s be honest, selfies are rarely the most flattering pictures are they?);

 7) Because life happens…

I don’t like to even think it, let alone write it, but life is fragile and we don’t know what’s round the corner.  One day – hopefully many years away – the only things that remain are photographs and memories and you want some of those to be really special;

8) Gift to keep and pass on to future generations.

Photos can connect the generations and make family history seem a little bit more real.  The children now will be Grandma or Grandad one day and even beyond that, future generations can marvel at their ancestors and wonder what they were like in the ‘olden days’ of the 2020s;
