4 Irresistible Reasons to get a natural maternity photoshoot
If you are anything like I was, your entire focus will be on preparing for the new arrival, but what about you? Just take a moment or two to think about you and what you are doing.
Whether you have just one baby, or enough to field a 5-a-side football team, it is a tiny amount of time in your life and you really should capture it. I didn’t…..and I really regret it. All I have are a couple of snaps that don’t do me, or my bump, justice.
So, why should you take the leap and get an outdoor maternity photoshoot?
You look amazing! OK, so as you disappear off to the toliet for the umpteenth time or struggle to remember what your toes look like, you might not feel it, but remember how amazing your hair is looking, or how strong your nails are right now. and, well, the overall glow of pregnancy.
The child within will love seeing pictures of them as a bump. My now-8 year old loves the idea of that fact that he was once in my tummy. How cool would it be to see pictures of you inside Mummy’s tummy?
To document your pregnancy journey and remember your bump. Trust me, you’ll soon have a phone full of pictures of your baby as they grow up, but what about before they are born? That’s still part of the journey and one that’s so often overlooked.
Treat yourself while you still can. Very soon, every waking hour (and, dare I say it, there will be more of those than you’re currently used to!) will revolve around the new arrival. Take some time out now to indulge yourself. Maybe make a day of it and follow it up with a long, lazy brunch or a trip to the cinema…..just because you can,…without it becoming a major organisational operation!
When should you have the shoot?
Its best to aim for somewhere between 28-34 weeks (maybe a bit earlier if it’s a multiple pregnancy). You need to have a nice big bump, but still be mobile and comfortable enough to be able to move around. Of course, the later you leave it, the bigger the bump but there’s always the chance that the baby will put in an early appearance. If you want an outdoor shoot, we’ll also need a bit of leaway to reschedule in the event of bad weather (I always try and have a back up date in the diary for all my outdoor shoots, just in case).
Where does it take place?
Pretty much, wherever you want. As with all my photography, I don’t have a studio, preferring instead to work with families to produce images unique to them, with backdrops that are meaningful. Before you book , we can discuss options that might work and we can come up with some options regardless of the time of year.
Does it have to be outdoors?
Absolutely not! I could come to you and take some pictures at home. Maybe you’ve already done up the nursery and would like some maternity images there. As a natural light, on-location photographer, I can meet you wherever you prefer.
Can the older kids come along?
Of course! They are part of the journey too and should definitely part of it. So too should any four-legged family members. Everyone’s welcome.
