Don’t leave your photos sitting in the virtual world when they deserve to shine in the real one.
A single photo of a significant event can make a real statement in your home.
What would most people say they’d grab from their home in an emergency (God forbid it ever actually happens), apart from their passports, phones and key documents of course? More often than not, it’s family photo albums.
Whether they are the images from our family or newborn photoshoot, pictures from years and generations past, or some of the thousands of photos you’ve doubtless got on your phone, they are important (well ok, probably not the majority of the pictures on your phone but that’s a topic for another day!).
The point is, family photographs should be treasured and given the limelight they deserve.
After your shoot
So, we’ve done the shoot and you’re excitedly waiting for the gallery to appear. I aim to get the pictures to you within about 7 to 10 days.
So what happens next? Once you get your gallery link, find a time to sit down and look at it properly, without distractions. Pour yourselves a glass of something cold (or hot as you prefer) and sit down together as a family. For maximum impact, you could set it to play as a slideshow and stream it through the TV. Whatever you do, give it your full attention and make it into a fun experience.
Choose your favourites - you’ll know right away which they are….the ones that speak to you immediately will probably be the ones you love most forever. Once you’ve decided on your final package, let me know and I’ll sort the rest.
Don’t loose momentum
About a week after you’ve confirmed your final decision with me, you will receive a parcel with your prints & digitals. Don’t make the mistake of putting it aside to do something with at some point in the future. It won’t happen; the moment will be lost and you’ll end up putting it out of the way in a draw and either forgetting about it or constantly feeling guilty you’ve not done anything.
That would be such a shame!
Get the prints framed
Whether it’s small frames dotted around the house, a single, big mounted frame that’s a focal point, or a gallery of multiple images, display them. There are so many reasons to do so:
They will make you smile when you see them;
They will give the kids a confidence boost, knowing that they can see their importance within they family and home;
They will personalise your home to reflect your life and memories rather than the generic decoration you could see anywhere;
As they grow up, framed pictures will allow the kids to marvel at how small they once were and how they’ve changed.
You can’t go wrong with a high quality print in a simple, bespoke frame that shows off your most precious pictures to their best.
I absolutely love this wall gallery by Devon Grace Interiors, photo by Dustin Halleck. Sadly, we don’t have the staircase for it, and, I suspect, balancing the frames would be tricky, so I’ll just keep dreaming for now.
Too many to frame?
OK, so it turns out you couldn’t cut down your favourites list and end up going for the entire gallery, so you’ve now got every picture on a USB stick. Maybe framing everything could be slightly overkill, but it would still be good to elevate all the pictures to something more deserving than a USB stick.
Our collection of annual and occasion photobooks - so worth the effort.
A photobook is a wonderful way to present everything whilst also not taking up huge amounts of space. I absolutely love photobooks and have previously written a blog on the subject.
Whether you are creating a book of images from our shoot, to mark a special occasion such as a significant holiday or milestone event, or as a memory of a year just gone, they are such a great way to show off pictures in a beautiful and accessible way.
I do admit, it seems like a complete pain when I’m about to start a creating the last year’s book and I have a ton of photos to cull down, but I never regret it. I often find my son sitting on the sofa browsing through one of our annual photobooks and that alone makes all the work worthwhile.
If you love the idea of a photobook but can’t face the thought of putting it together, get in touch and we could discuss your requirements. I’d be happy to help.
Whether you do it yourself or leave it to me, trust me, you will be delighted for years to come.
